Introspection of Tawfiq al-Hakim in the Drama al-Sultan al-Ha’ir (The Sultan’s Dilemma): A Brief Discussion

The Drama al-Sulṭân al-Ha’ir, authored by the renowned Arabic dramatist Tawfiq al-Hakim and published in 1960; diffuses introspection on the horrendous milieu prevailed in the countries during the period after the second world war; while the executive heads of the major world states fell in dilemma in matters of conducting political machinery. In fact, the playwright was inspired by the great tension in the international situation, which might be solved either in arbitration by the sword or by the law. In fact, this game of political atmosphere was conspicuous in the arena of the United Nations for bringing into account as decisive solution. Actually this drama deals with a Mamluk slave Sultan who was manumitted with due process of state law.
